Celtic Monasticism, as developed in Ireland and spread through parts of Scotland and northern England, had a unique flavour which distinguished it from the more familiar monasticism to be found in the rest of western Europe. It produced great works of art, such as the Book of Kells and the Ardagh Chalice, and great missionaries and adventurers, such as Aidan, Columba and Brendan. I hope you find something of interest in the following pages.
